results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2005, before the market opens on
Thursday, August 4, 2005. Michael J. Quillen, chief executive officer, and David
Stuebe, chief financial officer, will host a conference call to discuss these
financial results on Thursday, August 4, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

Alpha Natural Resources is a leading producer of high-quality Appalachian
